Misato Nakamoto Behar was born in 1978 in Amakusa, Kumamoto prefecture, Japan.
Since 2012, she’s been living in Tel Aviv, designing and creating unique ceramics, and has started the sibubu brand of cups for her mother, who lost her eyesight at an early age. After completing the overall design, Misato wanted to add patterns on the cups that would compliment their spinning motion, which resulted in the finished product you see today. These cups are designed in a way that would prevent any contents from spilling if hit accidently.
Misato chose to manufacture her cups in Japan because she found out that Amakusa is resonsible for most of the high quality porcelain produced in the country. When she came to know this fact, it brought back childhood memories of playing in the yard surrounded by mounds of clay, which further reinforced the decision to choose Amakusa as the source.
“ I hope you'll enjoy your new SIBUBU cup and maybe it’ll help you find old memories or even new ideas “ – Misato
